All counselors must be adopted. Senior counselors must be at least 18 years old. Junior counselors may be 17 years old at time of camp.

Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Counselor is responsible for teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities as well as guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. Counselor must be comfortable with their own adoption story to share it with other campers and counselors. Counselors will encourage adoption discussion in their cabins during siesta and evening time and will participate in adoption activities. Counselors are role models and will help build campers’ self-esteem and comfort with adoption issues.

All counselors are employees of YMCA Camp Jewell and must abide by Camp Jewell’s rules and regulations including a drug test.
